YORKSHIRE ACPIN PRESENTS:

Two day course covering theoretical and practical applications in neurorehabilitation

This is a 2-day course exploring the current scientific theories around motor learning in health and the injured brain, with a particular focus on motor learning post stroke. Participants will further their understanding of learning and memory by discussing how this may develop on a range of levels (cellular, molecular, systems and behavioural). Key research in learning dependent changes post stroke will be critically appraised, and factors that promote and impede motor learning will be examined. Interactive workshops, case study examples and discussions of leading treatments will provide opportunities for participants to consider how to apply the principles of experience dependent plasticity and task orientated practice, in order to maximise motor learning in the various clinical settings. This course is suitable for physiotherapists and occupational therapist with an interest in neurological rehabilitation. The course looks at Factors which promote and impede motor learning and task orientated reach training, dosage prescription and how to plan and implement treatment to promote ML in clinical practice.

Lecturer:

Gemma Alder: Gemma qualified as a (Charted) Physiotherapist in 2005 from the University of
Brighton with a BSc in Physiotherapy. From early on in her career she became passionate about working in the field of neurodisability and spent the first seven years working with clients at different stages along the neurological pathway in the NHS.,She has taught at the University of Brighton and currently works in New Zealand.
