Spinal Injuries Association The Spinal Injuries Association was founded in 1974 primarily to meet the needs of spinal cord injured people and their families, for whom there seemed to be little or no information about the effects of such an injury and the prospects for living an independent life as a disabled person. The Association has long been aware of the need to ensure that people who are newly spinal cord injured (and their families) have access to key information as soon as possible following injury. SIA has successfully established Peer Support Services within each of the specialist Spinal Cord Injury Centres (SCIC) in the UK and is keen to extend this service to general hospitals and community health settings. |
